Wedding Trends – What’s Hot For 2015

Some of us like the traditional wedding – bride in white, groom in morning suit - while others prefer something less formal like a beach setting, or maybe go to the extreme and take your vows hanging from a helicopter. However, while most fit somewhere in between, there are certain trends that hit the wedding scene throughout the year, and the next 12 months will be no different.

Morning Weddings
While it may seem that there is a ‘cool’ factor to getting everybody up early to watch you walk down the aisle, there are a couple of practical reasons that morning wedding have started to become popular. Generally it is less expensive to have weddings in the morning. Not only because afternoon/nighttime weddings cost a premium, but the food is not as elaborate and the drinks bill is cheaper. Also, when it comes to getting your wedding pictures taken, it gives the photographer a different perspective and makes your snaps just that bit more distinctive from everyday wedding shots.

Wedding Photography
Couples are starting to go for more action shots. This isn’t to say the traditional portrait shots have gone out the window, it just means that people are being a little bit more adventurous. Most couples are also looking for a mix of black and white shots and colour. Some are also getting videographers to edit their videos so it tells a story as opposed to being stock shots of Q&As and vox pops with guests.

Wedding Reception Decorations
2014 – and heading into 2015 – has seen an increase in unique decorations at a chosen wedding venue as couples try for that point of difference on their special day. Anything from bird cages, portable photo booths or even exclusive stone-embossed name holders make for a distinctive setting, and one that any photographer can take advantage of when taking the wedding snaps.

Banquet Seating
Traditional wedding receptions have round tables, which allow guests not only to have a conversation with the person next to you, but with everybody around you. However, over the past 12 months there has been a trend for couples to opt for banquet-style set ups whereby long tables are used so the seating arrangements are a lot more formal.

Exotic Settings
A trend over the past few years – and one set to continue – is having your wedding at an exotic location. Current favourites include the Pacific Islands, Thailand and other parts of South-east Asia, or if you prefer to close to home, places like Hamilton Island.
