Helpful Hints When Getting Hitched!

Getting married can be a very stressful time with so much to organise and get ready before the Big Day. Here at JL Images we have become used to the hustle and bustle of the wedding day. When it comes to photography and videography, here are some tips that might prove helpful before the big day:

  1. Book well in advance. If you ask around or look online, there seems to be plenty of wedding photographers and videographers about, but the high end ones are always booked early. With timing, we would suggest at least nine months. Some couples have booked us nearly 3 years out and we are already taking bookings for late 2015!
  2. Make a short list of ‘must have’ pictures you want taken. Thinking on the fly means you might miss out on one or two shots you really wanted. This doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be spontaneity on the day, just that there are certain shots you will want.
  3. Be sure that you get your timing right. Ask the photographer not only what parts of the service are covered but how long they will need you to be available for the bridal party shots. Make sure you are comfortable with the lead person. Will they guide you on the day, direct you, consult you and perhaps counsel or have heaps of fun with your bridal party? Is there plan B in case of wet weather, what are the back up plans? Does your photographer have back up personnel and gear? Do not leave it to chance!
  4. Consider having a second video, what we call cinematography – especially if you want comprehensive cover of the ceremony and speeches. It will hugely expand the options when it comes to the edit. The highlights will be similar to those movie trailers so don’t forget your popcorn and some tissues!
  5. Check out the service provider’s website – it will give you an idea of the type of service they offer and the quality of their photography. Are they an individual sole trader working out of home or a company? Do they have public liability and insurance? We are a Pty Ltd company with a studio based in Jones Bay Wharf, Pyrmont and shoot a contemporary style – fun, stylish, dramatic and confident!
  6. Be clear about what the costs cover, such as does it include all photos? Are there specials that include both snaps and video? Are there a minimum number of pictures you have to choose, how long is the turn-around time? What other options are available? Any hidden costs or will they leave early in the night and catch you by surprise? We are a one stop shop not only just photography and cinematography with customised packages and unlimited coverage but also photo booth hire and sports car hire - ride in style in a white BMW convertible or use it as a reception get-away car.
