Food and Drink ideas to keep your wallet full

Weddings can be a huge expense as we all know and realistically we would like to keep the costs as low as possible. The thing is though, this is your one big day so of course you can’t cut back too much. Hopefully these helpful tips will help you get that wedding you’ve always wanted without you needing to break open that piggy bank you’ve had since you were twelve.

What your guests have to eat and drink can determine whether you have happy or grumpy guests. So that being the case, it’s important to get the meal’s just right. But how can you do this without paying $40 per head you ask? Think about these to see if they are the solution to your problem.

  • Layout the Appetisers

Rather than paying extra to have a couple of waiters walk around with trays why not simply lay out the appetisers on a few strategically placed tables. Your guests will be coming to your reception hungry and we all know the feeling of looking through the crowd trying to find that silver platter of goodies. Not only will you save money by doing this but your guests will get their food and not have to fight and shuffle through a mob to get it. Trust me, it’s not how your appetisers are presented that matters but more so that they actually have a snack before the main course.

  • Limit the Options

It is a trend to have an open bar at a wedding reception but this of course is not always the case. Those that have an open bar for four hours can easily be paying up to $8000 at the end of the night. Rather than forking out enough cash for a used car why not think about buying the alcohol yourself. You can easily grab all the drinks you need for under $750 which is a huge difference. And if that’s not for you consider just serving wine and beer. This gives your guests two good options for drinks and can save you a lot of money by getting liquor out of the picture.

  • Outside Catering

In the interest of saving money definitely try to find a venue which allows outside catering. By doing this you can get the food you and your soon to be spouse love. Whether this is cheaper depends on your choice of catering but in most cases the venue will charge super inflated prices for the food they offer. Not only that but there are so many catering options out there that you can shop around to find the best deal for you.

  • Make your own

When you hear wedding you almost always assume it’s going to include cake but this doesn’t have to be the case. The cake can sometimes be horrendously expensive so let’s look at some alternative dessert solutions so you don’t have to cry every time you look at your bank account. How about a lucrative chocolate fountain with an assortment of things to cover such as marshmallows, strawberries and bananas. Or give a thought to a make your own sundae bar with all the toppings on the side. Get creative with your desserts. Bake an assortment of brownies and cake pops and leave it up to your guests decide what they get for dessert.
