DIY wedding to stay under budget

When having a wedding it’s common to order all these goods and services but let’s not forget that we can do things ourselves as well. If you’re looking to save some cash or wanting to add that personal touch have a look at some of these things which you can do for yourself and keep the costs low.

Planning

When planning your wedding it’s customary to give it the one year of planning before it’s time for the big show. Now, in order to keep the expenses low i offer you two options in this realm to help out. Firstly, you can give yourself less time to plan, move the wedding date closer and push yourself into gear. This will get you focusing on the wedding itself and the necessities and prevent you from getting lost in the extravagance of a wedding and help you to avoid all those costly extras which aren’t necessary. The second option is to give yourself more time. In doing so, you’ll allow yourself to purchase things when they are on sale and leave you time to carefully think about everything which you need for your special day.

Decorations

Many and more decorations go into a wedding whether it’s the venue or the cake or the getaway car. It’s no wonder that people are often hired to take care of these things but if you consider spending the time to do these things yourself, you can save yourself a fortune. Buy the decorations you want for your reception and grab a few family members who owe you one and decorate the place together. For you cake get the baker to make it look great and add the final touches so you can make it look grand. Or how about making each and every invitation yourself with ribbon and lace to make it personal, custom and affordable. These things are time consuming but if you’re willing to put in the effort you will reap the rewards.

Centrepieces and Bouquets

Arrange your centrepieces yourself with flowers that are currently in season. This will reduce the cost as no exotic out of season flowers need to be imported. Remember to also keep things simple. Try to keep the flowers the same and low in number for each centrepiece and bouquet. This way you save money on bulk buying only one type of flower and you have to buy less due to the reduced amount. Not only this but it’ll make each bouquet and centrepiece easier to manage and you will be able to use ribbon or lace to tie everything together keeping things low cost, simple yet beautiful.

Food

Depending on what you plan to do for food on your wedding day, give a thought to food stations/buffet style service. Now i know what you’re thinking, all you can eat means people eat more which in the end costs more. This is the case if you outsource this service but if you grab a few family members and each one cook’s a signature dish it not only makes your wedding reception that much more family orientated but help’s reduce the cost. It’s a great way to really get the family that is soon to join as one bonding with each other. Simply lay out the dishes and let your guests help themselves to their heart’s content.

Favours

Your night has come to an end and you want your guests to leave with something perfect to finish the night. The most cost effective way to ensure this is to bake some goodies for them to take home. Think brownies, macarons, cake pops or cookies. It’s quite often said the best giveaway is the edible kind and if you have no skill for this then outsource it to a friend who does. That can be their present to you and they can show all your friend’s and family how good of a baker they are. Not only is this affordable but it is a sure fire way for a happy ending to a perfect night.
